Profile

Michael combines a practice in family financial provision (ancillary relief) and in civil common law with an emphasis on property related matters (trusts of land, Inheritance Act, Housing, Landlord & Tenant, Insolvency) and commercial disputes.
He is also instructed by a number of insurers in personal injury matters and regularly represents police authorities in property, injunctive matters and judicial review.

Family Financial Provision

Michael has experience of all types of ancillary relief matters from those with significant assets (especially where the analysis of company or partnership accounts is required) to those cases of more modest assets where an understanding of the litigants’ entitlement to benefits and social housing is essential.

Mediation

Michael has conducted a wide variety of mediations, including family and unmarried couples’ property disputes, recovery of professional fees, landlord and tenant claims, boundary disputes, school fees contracts, and business disputes. His previous commercial experience informs the pragmatic approach he takes to problem-solving and a high percentage of the mediations conducted by him result in successful settlement.

Property and Contract disputes

Michael receives instructions in a broad range of property work including Trusts of Land (whether arising out of relationship breakdown or commercial disputes), Inheritance Act, Landlord & Tenant, Housing and personal insolvency.
