Richard is a family law specialist who is instructed predominantly in public law care and adoption proceedings and the more complex private law children work.
Public Law Children
Richard represents local authorities, parents, interveners and children's guardians at all stages of care and adoption proceedings. Richard regularly acts in cases involving medical and factual evidence arising from possible non-accidental injuries, sexual and physical abuse and chronic neglect. Richard is experienced in cases involving the Official Solicitor; children who are separately represented from the guardian; concurrent criminal prosecutions; mental health problems; disability in parents and children; applications for special guardianship and placement; contested adoptions; legal and illegal immigrant cases and placement of children outside fo the jurisdiction.
Children and Family Private Law Children
Richard is experienced in cases involving domestic violence and fact finding hearings; implacable hostility; where the child is separately represented ; leave to remove from the jurisdiction; child abduction cases (including Hague Convention applications); and jurisdictional disputes, emergency injunctive relief and commital.
Notable cases
Re R (a Child) [2005] EWHC 2018 (Tam); [2005] EWHC 2099 (Fam): May 3, 2005 . Consideration of whether the English Court had jurisdiction to entertain an application under the Children Act 1989 in accordance with Article 3 of Council Regulation (ric) No 134712000. Richard acted for the successful Respondent.
Richmond v Ballester [2006] EWHC 352 (Fam): March 2, 2006. Consideration of whether the English Court had jurisdiction to entertain a petition of divorce in accordance with section 5(2)(a) of the Domicile and Matrimonial Proceedings Act 1973 and Article 2(a) of Council Regulation (EC) No 1347/2000. Richard acted for the successful Respondent.

Richard has undertaken lectures and previous Chambers' seminars on ancillary relief (update and costs) and the Public Law Outline.
