Profile
Mark's practice encompasses a broad range of civil/commercial work with particular specialism in the fields of landlord and tenant, property and housing law as well as personal injury. He also undertakes advisory and adversarial work in general contractual and tortious disputes.
Mark is an accredited mediator with experience of conducting mediations in a wide range of disputes.
Mark is also qualified to accept instructions directly from members of the public within his specialist practice areas.
Landlord and Tenant/Property
Acting for landlords and tenants in a wide range of matters involving both residential and business tenancies. Mark has experience of:
Disrepair Service charge disputes (in both the Courts and the Leasehold Valuation Tribunal) All aspects of possession proceedings Leasehold renewal and enfranchisement
Mark also deals with all aspects of property law including all aspects of mortgages and trusts of land.
Housing
Advice and representation in Homelessness appeals and other aspects of social housing for local authorities and applicants, including anti-social behaviour and the full range of landlord and tenant matters within a local authority context.
Community Care
Notable Cases
A v NASS and Waltham Forest LBC [2003] EWCA Civ 1473 which related to the provision of assistance to asylum seekers and their children. Mark was Junior Counsel for the Local Authority.
Thomas & another v London Borough of Havering , [2008] EWHC 2300 (Admin) involving an unsuccessful challenge by the claimants to a decision taken in principle to close a care home subject to individual assessments of the risks to each resident's welfare being carried out. Mark was Counsel for the Local Authority.
Personal Injury
Mark is experienced in acting for claimants & defendants through private instruction, unions and local authorities in all aspects of personal injury including:
Tripping and slipping RTAs including claims involving the MIB Occupiers' Liability Accidents at work Industrial injuries Stress at work RSIs, and claims involving VDU's and work station related injuries PTSD claims
CFA funded work is accepted on a case by case basis.

Mark has experience of many cases involving general points of contract and tort and raising a wide range of issues including, for example:

Additional Professional Experience
Before undertaking pupillage in chambers Mark worked as a research assistant at the Law Commission and was involved in the consultation paper on Unfair Terms in Contracts.
Mark is a qualified Direct Public Access barrister.
