Pupillage

We are currently offering two, 12 month pupillages commencing in September 2011 which carry a grant of £22,500 (made up of £17,500 grant plus £5,000 guaranteed earnings in second six).

Types of work undertaken:

There are three principal areas of practice:

  • Civil Law: most areas; in particular, landlord and tenant, personal injury, commercial, professional negligence and employment.
  • Family Law: all areas, i.e. both finance and children, public and private.
  • Public Law: a wide range of areas, with a strong emphasis on work for local
government; in particular, human rights, housing, and social services.

Pupillage is divided into four seats - during the first three, pupils will experience chambers' main practice areas. The final seat will be allocated following consultation with pupils.

Second six pupils can expect to be in court on a regular basis. The bulk of chambers' work is in London and the South-East.

Application details:

By e-mail only to pupillage11@fieldcourt.co.uk with covering letter and CV as attachments, between 1st March and 1st May 2010.

A high standard of intellectual ability is required, typified by the fact that three very recent tenants have worked as judicial assistants in the Court of Appeal. A 2.1 degree as a minimum is expected but all applications will be considered on their overall merits.

Equal Opportunities:

It would assist Chambers if each application could be accompanied by the Equal Opportunities Monitoring form which can be downloaded here and sent in electronic form to our Equal Opportunities Officer. It will be passed to the appropriate person for monitoring purposes only. This form is not part of the application and will not be considered by those deciding on your application.

Third Six Pupillages:

We are not currently looking for third six pupils.

Mini-Pupillage:

Chambers has a limited number of mini-pupillages available each year. Applications for mini-pupillages to take place in Spring/Summer 2010 should be made by covering letter and CV and sent to The Pupillage Committee and clearly marked Mini-Pupillage on the envelope by 31 January 2010.
If you do not receive a response by 28 February 2010 please assume that your application has been unsuccessful.
