Members of the Family Practice Group have considerable experience in representing parties to care proceedings, whether in the Family Proceedings Court, Care Centres or the High Court. A number of Local Authorities regularly instruct members of chambers to advise and represent them on all aspects of care proceedings and related issues. A broad cross section of private solicitors also instruct members of chambers to represent parents, related parties and children. The areas covered include disputed medical evidence, ‘shaken baby' cases, factitious illness, historic abuse cases and chronic neglect. Members of the Family Practice Group are also experienced in representing parties to adoption proceedings and applications under the Adoption and Children Act 2002.
In addition, other members of chambers have frequently been asked to advise on related matters, such as housing, community care and immigration. This is an example of the advantages of the complementary nature of the practice groups within Field Court Chambers.
Reported cases involving members of Chambers include:
Re H (A Child) [2005] EWCA Civ 1059 - considered the standard of proof required in findings of fact made in care proceedings.
