Profile
Victoria has returned to Chambers after spending  two successful  terms as Judicial Assistant to the Lord Chief Justice and Lord Justice Carnwath at the Court of Appeal (Civil Division)

 Family
Victoria has a keen interest in family law and seeks to develop her practice in all areas. She has appeared in both public and private law children matters representing parents and local authorities. She has also acted in civil proceedings relating to domestic violence, in particular non-molestation and occupation orders.

During pupillage, Victoria worked on cases involving surrogacy, honour-based violence and forced marriage. She obtained valuable experience assisting the former head of chambers Lucy Theis QC (now Mrs Justice Theis) with a complex twenty-day fact-finding hearing in the High Court. Victoria also gained exposure to ancillary relief matters, from first appointments through to final hearings.

Whilst a judicial assistant, Victoria has helped with a range of family appeals, including several with an international element.

Employment
Victoria has a strong interest in employment law, and has been instructed in both unfair dismissal and breach of contract cases.

Victoria has assisted with numerous employment matters, including the appeal to the Employment Appeal Tribunal of Bebbington v Palmer (t/a Sturry News) [2010] UKEAT 0371 (the employment status of a 15-year-old paperboy).

As a judicial assistant, Victoria has gained exposure to employment appeals involving race discrimination, failure to pay holiday pay and unlawful deduction from wages.

Victoria is a regular contributor to Chambers’ Employment Newsletter.

Civil
Victoria has acted and advised in a range of civil matters, and has appeared in various County Court hearings. During pupillage, Victoria assisted with both County Court and High Court trials and gained experience of numerous interim applications.

Public Law and Local Government
Victoria is interested in Court of Protection work, and has assisted with AVS v A NHS Foundation Trust and B PCT [2011] EWCA Civ 7 (provision of medical treatment where there is no medical practitioner ready, willing and able to provide it) whilst at the Court of Appeal.

Victoria has also assisted with numerous immigration appeals, including RT (Zimbabwe) and others v Secretary of State [2010] EWCA Civ 1285 (asylum seekers willing to lie about their political opinions in order to avoid persecution in the context of the Supreme Court decision in HJ (Iran) [2010] UKSC 31).

Furthermore, Victoria was involved as a judicial assistant in Secretary of State for Justice v RB [2010] UKUT 454 (AAC) (whether the Upper Tribunal is bound by decisions of the High Court) and as a pupil in R (Clue) v Birmingham City Council [2010] 4 All ER 423 (local authority provision of services to overstayers).
